Treatments for Adults

Adults of all ages can benefit from orthodontic treatments, so you can get the smile you've always wanted! The Quebec Association of Orthodontists estimates that 20% of orthodontic patients are adults and this percentage keeps increasing. During your consultation, the health of your teeth, gums and supporting bone will be evaluated so a treatment suited to your needs can be recommended. Different options will be made available to you such as white brackets (3M Clarity) and removable transparent aligner trays (Invisalign).

In addition, Dr. Valois is the only orthodontist in the Outaouais region who uses the SureSmile© technique, which, according to the World Journal of Orthodontics, provides a 25% increase in treatment quality efficiency and a 40% reduction in the duration of treatment.

What Is Orthodontics?

Orthodontics is a specialty of dentistry that is devoted to the diagnosis, prevention and correction of abnormal teeth positioning and malocclusions for functional and/or aesthetic purposes. Orthodontic treatments improve functions like chewing, breathing, swallowing and growth. Well-aligned teeth are also easier to clean, which helps prevent cavities, gum disease and, in extreme cases, tooth loss. Patients who receive orthodontic treatments for aesthetic reasons notice a significant increase in self-esteem following their treatment.

Orthodontics can correct the following:

  • Over-bite or under-bite
  • Long face
  • Excessively gummy smiles
  • Too much (or not enough) spacing between teeth
  • Lips that do not close completely
  • Asymmetrical smiles
  • Cleft lip and/or palate (harelip)
  • before-after1
  • before-after2
  • before-after3
  • before-after4
  • before-after6
  • before-after7

Orthodontists

Orthodontists specialize in the diagnosis, prevention and treatment of dentofacial irregularities. Orthodontists receive advanced academic training. At first, they must complete four or five years of dentistry study at a university recognized by the Canadian Dental Association.
They must then successfully complete a two-to-three-year residency in orthodontics. Their post-graduate studies cover topics such as genetics, embryology, biophysics and the growth and development of the human body. Only dentists who have successfully completed such training can call themselves orthodontists.

Invisalign
Your Invisalign treatment consists of a series of nearly invisible, removable aligners that you change every two weeks for the next set of aligners. Each aligner is individually manufactured for your teeth, and your teeth only. As you replace each aligner, your teeth will move – little by little, week by week – until they have straightened to the final position prescribed by your dental practitioner.

What’s more, a virtual 3D treatment plan (ClinCheck© treatment plan) shows the series of movements your teeth will go through over the course of the treatment. This allows you to see upfront what your teeth are expected to like at the end of the treatment. From the results of the ClinCheck treatment plan, your custom-made, clear aligners are produced especially for you.

If you're ready for a smile that transforms your appearance, Invisalign is your answer. Although there are many choices out there, no other treatment works as comfortably as Invisalign.
